We sang Shangalang and we ran with the gang....

doin doo wop be dooby do aye.....................
Yup, Bay City Rollers have had a huge presence on my Ipod while I've been gardening today. I'm slightly too young to have been a screaming fan of the Tartan clad group but my older sister isn't and as such their LP's were played ALOT in our bedroom.
So what was I doing while bopping along to Shangalang et al?  Well, on a whim I decided I needed to make a path connecting the grass area of the garden to the gravelled patio as the area gets alot of foot and paw traffic and is starting to get very very muddy

I ummed and ahhed about what to make the path with (it has to be materials I already have cos I'm not buying anything) and I did eventually settle on paving slabs (original huh) but it didn't feel right because there are NO paving slabs anywhere else in this part of the garden. So my choices came down to gravel (booooring), wood (too slippy in the winter) or stone ( we have loads from demolishing the old house). Stone slab won!

Believe it or not that teeny area took alot of digging out and the ground was rock solid because it's so dry and compacted.
I messed around with the slabs for quite a while until I got bored liked the way it was, plus those slabs weigh an absolute ton and I was having to cart them from way waaaaaaaaay over yonder.
Here's the finished look

Despite being set straight onto the ground they're very stable - no wobble.

  1. I was always annoyed at screaming when I was trying to listen to groups singing!

That was a good choice of materials.

    1. Thank you Sue :) I know what you mean re the screaming, I was a Bros fan and I thought the girlie screams were way OTT.

Thank you for stopping by Sue.

  2. Very nice work on the path, looks good. I should really get out the MP3 player and listen to music while I garden. Instead I tend to replay various arguments from work in my head. While I invariably nail my opponent, I think music would be more relaxing.

    1. lol. Listening to music is much more relaxing. I started doing it when I had depression as the black dog (depression) doesn't like music. It would certainly take your mind off work arguments - though it can be good to nail that opponent even if it is only in your head ;)

      Thanks for popping by

    1. I was reluctant to use the slabs tbh because I knew what the bigger ones would weigh - I struggled to lift them into a barrow but I refuse to ask for help so managed it in the end..
Glad you like the finished look :)

  5. And they look great! It's hard to work with stone. They weigh so much, and that wobble is not always easy to get rid of! Congrats on a great job!

    1. You're right! That large one was especially difficult to move all on my own but I'm glad I did it with no help.

    1. Thank you Donna. I think music motivates me when I'm out there, I dont know how I'd cope without it now.
